Massachusetts has led the debate against bullying in the U.S. since the suicide of Prince Phoebe, age 15, and Joseph Walker, Carl Hoover, 11 in 2009.
The state passed a law against bullying in May 2010, which prohibits the action in schools and the Internet, and requires schools to develop practices to avoid the problem and to intervene if a case is discovered.
Using data from Massachusetts, the CDC found that bullies - the aggressors - and their victims have reported being victims of psychological violence by a family member or have witnessed violence in their homes with a much higher frequency than those not involved in bullying.

The study also identified a significant number of persons related to bullying that had recently used alcohol or drugs.
